Personal medical equipment

If you need to travel on NSW TrainLink Regional trains and coach services with medical equipment, be sure to discuss your needs with the staff member managing your travel arrangements. You can make the necessary arrangements when you book with NSW TrainLink or your sales agent.

Before you travel on public transport in NSW, familiarise yourself with safety, etiquette and accessibility information.

If you are carrying a portable oxygen cylinder, please ensure that it meets the following requirements:

  • it should be of type B, CS, CH, CL or D
  • the weight should not exceed 13 kilograms
  • it should have a travel pack or trolley
  • it should have a suitable strap to secure the unit to the seat
  • it should contain sufficient oxygen to meet your needs in the event that your service is delayed.

Throughout the journey, your cylinder must be in an upright position and secured by its straps to the train or coach seat at all times.

Please make sure that you are able to carry the cylinder onto and off the train or coach, as staff members are unable to assist with these items.

Due to space limitations, customers needing more than one oxygen cylinder may need to wait for their reservation to be confirmed before finalising their travel plans.

Oxygen concentrators

If you're travelling with a concentrator, please ensure the unit has sufficient battery life for the duration of your journey- including possible service delays. Batteries cannot be recharged on board as continuous 240-volt power supply cannot be guaranteed.

First aid kits

NSW TrainLink Regional trains contain first aid kits. If you require first aid, you can ask our on-board staff for assistance.

Cardiac responder units

NSW TrainLink Regional trains are fitted with cardiac responder units. These lightweight battery-powered devices provide simple, verbal and visual instructions to users, illustrating the correct use of the device in times of emergency.
