Important Travel Advice

Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.   

The best train stations for connections to Rosehill Gardens are Parramatta and Westmead where you can connect with light rail services to the racecourse. 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run regularly via Parramatta and stop at Rosehill Gardens, across from the racecourse. Alight at the Rosehill Gardens and continue on foot via Grand Avenue and the underpass to the venue. See the Rosehill Gardens transport map (pdf 455KB) to find your way. 

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

If you have to drive, travel with your group and arrive early as parking will be in high demand. If you're using rideshare and taxis, there are designated drop off locations on site.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. 

Change at Epping to connect with buses to Rosehill or for trains to Parramatta where you can connect with light rail services to the Rosehill Gardens stop. See the Rosehill Gardens transport map (pdf 455KB) to find your way. 

On Sunday, extra metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham from 4am to 9:30am.

The best station for connections to Rosehill Gardens is Parramatta where you can change for buses to get to and from the racecourse. Trains to Parramatta run regularly on weekends.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place on Tuesday 29 April to Sunday 4 May on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

Tuesday 29 April to Thursday 1 May 

  • City Circle: Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains will not run to Museum, St James or Circular Quay. 
  • T1 Western Line: Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, some trains make an extra stop at Ashfield. On Tuesday from 10.40pm to 3.30am, buses replace trains between Emu Plains and Blacktown.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West & Line: Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, most trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Central, platforms 1-12, via Granville, and will not stop at Ashfield. Inner West trains run between Homebush and North Sydney, stopping at Ashfield. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and North Sydney via Regents Park 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: From Monday to Friday, Buses replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. T3 trains run between Liverpool and the City via Lidcombe. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Nightly from 9.10pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Glenfield and Sydenham. Trains run between Macarthur and Glenfield, and until 10.40pm between Turrella and Central via the Airport. Nightly from 9.50pm, trains between Sydenham and the City start and end at Central due to City Circle trackwork. Nightly from 10.40pm to 1.30am, buses also replace trains between Sydenham and Central via the Airport. 
  • T9 Northern Line: Nightly from 9.30pm to 1.30am, some trains make an extra stop at Ashfield. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: On Tuesday from 11.20pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Penrith and Blacktown. On Friday From 10.20pm to 2am, some trains run around the City Circle. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: On Friday from 10.20pm to 2am, some trains run around the City Circle 
  • Hunter Line: On Wednesday, from 8am to 1pm, buses replace trains between Newcastle Interchange and Telarah or Muswellbrook.The 08:29 Newcastle Interchange to Dungog will not run. Catch the 08:48 Newcastle Interchange to Telarah train and change at Maitland for a bus towards Dungog. Buses also replace the 10:02 Dungog to Newcastle Interchange service. On Thursday, From 8.45am to 11.15am, buses replace trains between Muswellbrook and Maitland. 
  • South Coast Line: On Friday From 10pm Friday, trains that normally start or end at Central, platforms 1-12 will start or end at Bondi Junction. 
  • Southern Highlands Line: On Friday From 8pm to 2am, buses replace trains from Moss Vale to Campbelltown. From 9.50pm to 2am, buses replace trains from Campbelltown to Moss Vale. 

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May 

  • M1 Metro Line: On Sunday from 4am to 9.30am, extra metro services run between Tallawong and Sydenham. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: On Sunday from 4am to 7.40am, trains run between Berowra and Wynyard only, some to a changed timetable. Use metro services between Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross and the City, or change at Wynyard for a City Circle train or the light rail. Buses replace trains between Central and Strathfield. 
  • T1 Western Line: Richmond trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Richmond and Olympic Park. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City. On Sunday from 4am to 7.30am, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run between Penrith and Ashfield only, to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central or remain on the train if you are travelling to Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. 
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Macarthur, Glenfield and Fairfield. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City via the Airport, and between Fairfield and the City via Granville. Trains between Leppington and Glenfield run to a reduced frequency, buses supplement trains between these stations. Buses also replace T3 trains between Cabramatta and Lidcombe via Regents Park. On Sunday from 4am to 7.30am, buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Fairfield and Schofields or Richmond. Change at Parramatta for trains towards the City. T1 trains run between Penrith and Ashfield only. Change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central or remain on the train if you are travelling to Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Liverpool, Cabramatta and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Trains run between Lidcombe and the City, some to a changed timetable. Inner West trains run between Homebush and the City. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Buses also replace trains between Macarthur, Liverpool and Fairfield and T6 trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. On Sunday from 4am to 7.30am, buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Trains run between Lidcombe and Ashfield only. Change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central or remain on the train if you are travelling to Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield.  
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Glenfield and Fairfield. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Schofields and Olympic Park, and between Fairfield and the City via Granville. You may need to change services to continue your journey. Trains also run between Leppington and the City via the Airport. Trains between Leppington and Glenfield run to a reduced frequency, buses supplement trains between these stations. Some late night and early morning trains run between Fairfield and Richmond. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. Buses also replace T3 trains between Liverpool, Cabramatta and Lidcombe. Change at Lidcombe for T1 or T2 trains towards the City or Parramatta; at Regents Park for T3 buses towards Cabramatta; at Bankstown for Southwest Link bus services towards Sydenham. Trackwork between Bankstown and Lidcombe continues until Sunday 29 June. Trackwork between Bankstown and Lidcombe continues until Sunday 29 June.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Buses replace trains between Macarthur, Glenfield and Fairfield. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington or Revesby and the City via the Airport. T8 trains between Sydenham and the City Circle do not run. T4 trains run between Sydenham and Bondi Junction, with some making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. 
  • T9 Northern Line: On Sunday from 4am to 7.30am, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Change at Epping for metro services to the City or change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central. Trains run between Hornsby and Strathfield, some to a changed timetable. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Most trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. Change trains at Blacktown to continue your journey. Trains from Blacktown to Blue Mountains Line stations run up to 30 minutes later than the normal timetable. Bathurst trains run to the normal timetable between Bathurst and Strathfield. Some late night or early morning trains start from Strathfield or run around the City Circle. On Sunday from 4am to 7.30am, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. T1 trains run between Penrith and Ashfield only, to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central or remain on the train if you are travelling to Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Most trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Strathfield only. Change at Epping for metro services to the City or change trains at Strathfield to continue your journey. Some late night or early morning trains run around the City Circle. On Sunday from 1.20am to 7.30am, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Change at Epping for metro services to the City or change at Strathfield for express and all-stations buses towards Central. 
  • South Coast Line: From 10pm Friday, trains that normally start or end at Central, platforms 1-12 will start or end at Bondi Junction.   
  • Southern Highlands Line: Buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Glenfield. You may need to change buses to continue your journey. T8 trains run to a changed timetable between Glenfield and the City.

From Parramatta Interchange, route 920 and 535 services run towards Rosehill making stops near the racecourse. Services run every 20 minutes on weekends.

Route 920:

  • Services leave from Parramatta Station Interchange, Stand A2, and drop off on James Ruse Drive opposite Prospect Street.
  • Services leave from James Ruse Drive at Prospect Street and drop off at Parramatta Interchange.

Route 535:

  • Services leave from Valentine Avenue before Wentworth Street at Parramatta Interchange and drop off on Hassall Street after Arthur Street.
  • Services leave from Hassall Street and drop off at Valentine Avenue, Parramatta Interchange.
  • Services stop at Carlingford, Telopea, Dundas, Rydalmere, Camellia/Rosehill and Parramatta. A standard Opal train fare applies. Catch a train or bus for connections to and from Clyde.

The closest wharf to the Rosehill is Parramatta Wharf. From here, walk to Parkes Street to catch buses towards Rosehill Gardens.

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Parramatta but services are popular and may reach capacity. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.

Please note, F3 Parramatta River ferries between Parramatta and Rydalmere may be affected by low tide and replaced by buses, check for updates here.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Attendees are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.  

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 6am to 11pm daily, and until midnight on Friday. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

From Central, change for a T1 Western Line train to Parramatta to connect with buses to Rosehill Gardens.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). From Central, change for a T1 Western Line train to Parramatta to connect with buses to Rosehill Gardens.

Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on James Ruse Drive and Hassall Street approaching the racecourse so allow extra travel time.

Drop-off: taxis enter Rosehill Gardens Racecourse through the Grand Avenue gates but are not permitted to stop on James Ruse Drive or Grand Avenue.

Pick-up: taxis are located on Oak Street over the Equine Bridge located at the Might and Power entry.

Racecourse Parking

Free unreserved members parking is available in:

  • P4 and P5 car parks located on James Ruse Drive and Prospect Street.
  • P6 Infield car park via Gate 2 on Unwin Street.

Reserved Members Car Parking is available for those with annual car park passes.
