Important Travel Advice
Up to 10,000 participants are expected to take part in the annual Sun Run event from Dee Why to Manly Beach. Participants are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.
Getting there:
- Special event shuttle buses will run from Wynyard, Manly Wharf and Warringah Mall to help participants get to and from the event. Travel on event shuttle buses is free for Sun Run participants, just show your bib when boarding.
- Regular route buses also make stops along Pittwater Road in Dee Why, or near the beach where the start line is a short walk away. Please note, some buses will be diverting and missing stops while roads are closed for the event. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
- Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. If you're catching event shuttle buses, travel is included in your participant entry.
Road closures and special event clearways will be in place from along the course from 3am with all closures in place in Dee Why, North Curl Curl, Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff and Manly by 5:30am. If you’re driving to the start line, plan to arrive early as local parking in the area will be in high demand. Traffic may be heavier than usual in the area as detours are put in place when roads close ahead of the event. Opal
You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.
Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.
More ways to pay
If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport services including metro, trains, buses ferries and light rail, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.
Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.
The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night.
Change at Chatswood or Victoria Cross for connecting buses to the Northern Beaches.
Trackwork: please note due to planned maintenance buses will replace Metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood on Saturday 1 February. Catch buses to Chatswood to connect with route buses to Dee Why.

The best stations for connections to Dee Why are Chatswood, North Sydney and Wynyard. Change for a Sydney Buses or B-Line service to Dee Why to get to the start line.
Special event buses and frequent B-Line services also run from Carrington Street at Wynyard.
Trackwork
Weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 1 February on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.
- M1 Metro Line: Buses replace services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Metro services run between Chatswood and Sydenham.
- T1 Western Line: From 8am to 12pm, Richmond trains run to a changed timetable between Richmond and Liverpool. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City.
- T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: From 8am to 12pm, trains run to a changed timetable and frequency between Leppington and the City via Granville or Regents Park. Inner West trains also run to a changed timetable and frequency. Some T9 Northen Line trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
- T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: From 8am to 12pm, trains run to a changed timetable and frequency between Leppington and the City via Regents Park. Inner West trains also run to a changed timetable and frequency. Some T9 Northen Line trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
- T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Sydenham and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Cronulla or Waterfall and Sydenham, and between Central and Bondi Junction. Metro services run between Sydenham and the City.
- T8 Airport & South Line: Buses replace trains between Sydenham and Central. Metro services run between Sydenham and the City. Trains run between Macarthur, Revesby and the City via the Airport, some to a changed timetable. Trackwork on the T4 and South Coast lines may also affect how you travel. Change at Wolli Creek for trains towards T4 Illawarra and South Coast line stations.
- T9 Northern Line: From 8am to 12pm, some trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
- Hunter Line: From 8.50pm to 2.20am, buses replace trains from Newcastle Interchange to Telarah. From 10pm to 3.30am, buses replace trains from Telarah to Newcastle Interchange.
- South Coast Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between South Coast Line stations and Hurstville only. Change trains at Hurstville to continue your journey. Trackwork also affects T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line trains between Sydenham and Central.

Regular Route Buses
The closest bus stops to the start line are along Pittwater Road at Dee Why shops. From here, Dee Why Beach is approximately 15-minutes (1km) walk away. A number of regular bus routes, including B-Line services, make stops along Pittwater Road. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Bus Diversions
Some buses will be diverting and missing stops from 3:30am to 10am due to road closures for the event:
- Route 166 – services will start and end trips at Manly Wharf, West Esplanade, Stand A. Services in both directions will divert away from Griffin Road via Pittwater Road, Harbord Road and Brighton Street. Services will also divert away from North Steyne in both directions via Oliver Street and Pittwater Road.
- Route 167 – services will start and end trips at Jacka Park, Wyndora Avenue.
- Route 177 – services in both directions will divert away from Pitt Road and Abbott Road via Headland Road and Harbord Road. Stops on Parr Avenue, Playfair Road, Abbott Road and Pitt Road will be missed.

Special Event Buses
Free special event shuttle bus services will run from Wynyard via Warringah Mall, Balgowlah and Manly, making limited stops to help get participants to the start line in Dee Why and again after the event on the same routes, home from Manly.
Special event buses are free for Sun Run participants – simply show your race bib prior to boarding.

The closest ferry wharf to the event is Manly Wharf on the F1 Line. From there, you can connect with a regular bus service or a special event bus to get to the start line at Dee Why.
Keep in mind ferry services are very popular and may reach capacity, especially on weekends.
Please note, the first ferry service will arrive at Manly Wharf at 6:32am. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner to make sure you get to the start line in time.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line
L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
From Central change for L2 or L3 light rail services or trains to Wynyard to connect with buses to the Northern Beaches.
L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines
L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using Trip Planner.
Change at Wynyard for buses to the Northern Beaches, including B-Line services leaving from Carrington Street.

If you’re driving to the starting line, plan to arrive early as parking in the area will be in high demand. Roads will also be closed ahead of the event. Road Closures
Closures will be in place in the following locations along and surrounding the course between 3:30am and 11am. See the Sun Run 2025 road closure and clearway map for details including times and locations.
Dee Why
- From 3:30am to 9am: sections of Howard Avenue, The Strand and Dee Why Parade will be closed. The Oaks Avenue westbound crossover will be maintained at The Strand until 6am.
- From 5:15am to 9am: sections of Oaks Avenue and The Strand will be closed.
- From 5:30am to 9am: sections of Boronia Street, Griffin Road, Monash Parade and The Strand will be closed.
- From 6am to 9am: sections of Pacific Parade will be closed.
North Curl Curl to Freshwater
- From 5:30am to 9am: sections of Abbot Road, Griffin Road, Pitt Road, Adams Street, Carrington Parade, Charles Street, Evans Street, and surrounding local roads will be closed.
- The following crossover points will be maintained in both directions until 6:15am:
- Pacific Parade at Griffin Road
- Playfair Road at Pitt Road
- Ross Street at Pitt Road
- Headland Road at Griffin Road
North Curl Curl
- From 6am to 9am: Headland Road will be closed eastbound between Wheeler Parade and Griffin Road.
Freshwater to Queenscliff
- From 5:30am to 10am: sections of Lumsdaine Drive, Undercliff Road, Dalley Street, Dowling Street, Greycliffe Street, Queenscliff Road, and surrounding local roads will be closed.
- Managed westbound exit will be maintained on Crown Road between Dowling Street and Cavill Street from 5:30am to 6:30am and 9:15am to 10am.
Manly
- From 3:30am to 9:30am (northern end): sections of North Steyne, Raglan Street and other local roads will be closed.
- From 3:30am to 11am (southern end): sections of South Steyne, Wentworth Street, Ashburner Street and Victoria Parade will be closed.
- From 5:30am to 10am: sections of Bridge Rd, Cameron Ave and Collingwood St will be closed.
Residents are advised that vehicles are not permitted on roads once they are closed. Travel before roads close or after they have re-opened.
Cycleway Closure – Dee Why from 3:30am to 9am
- Both directions closed on The Strand between Oaks Avenue and Dee Why Parade.
Crossover Point – Closure Times
Vehicle crossover points have been established to facilitate resident access where possible. To ensure the safety of participants, these points will be closed to vehicles while runners pass through.
Crossover points will be closed at the following times and locations:
- Dee Why
- 5:15am to 7:20am – Oaks Ave at The Strand (eastbound)
- 6am to 7:20am – Oaks Ave at The Strand (westbound)
- 6:15am to 7:45am – Pacific Pde at Griffin Rd (both directions)
- North Curl Curl
- 6:15am to 7:45am – Headland Rd at Griffin Rd (both directions)
- 6:15am to 8:15am – Playfair Rd at Pitt Rd (both directions)
- 6:15am to 8:15am – Ross St at Pitt Rd (both directions)
- Curl Curl
- 6:15am to 9am – Adams St at Carrington Pde (westbound)
- NOTE: Managed westbound exit from 5:30am until 6:15am
- Queenscliff
- 6:30am to 9:15am: Crown Rd between Dowling St and Cavill St (both directions)
- NOTE: Managed westbound exit from Crown Rd from 5:30am until 6:30am, and from 9:15am until 10am

Parking
There's limited street parking around Dee Why and Manly, and spots will fill quickly. Plan to arrive early and allow extra travel time as traffic may be heavy on roads around Dee Why Beach as participants travel to the start line.
Roads around Dee Why Beach will be closed from 3.30am. Access to Dee Why Beach car park will be maintained until it reaches capacity.

Special Event Clearways
Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect from 3am until 9am on roads along the course through Dee Why, North Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff and Manly including sections of Abbott Road, Howard Avenue, The Strand, Evans Street, Crown Road and North Steyne.

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
